President Bola Tinubu has acknowledged the economic hardship facing many Nigerians and pledged that his administration will intensify efforts to reduce poverty and improve living conditions.

The President made the commitment in his 66th Independence Day address on Thursday, saying the hardship experienced by households remained a major concern for the government.

Tinubu said some of the country’s economic difficulties had accumulated over several decades and could not be resolved immediately, but maintained that his administration was working to change Nigeria’s economic direction.

He said the government’s next phase would focus on reducing the cost of living, creating jobs and expanding opportunities for citizens.

The President also highlighted efforts to strengthen social protection and support vulnerable Nigerians as the country moves beyond the initial phase of economic reforms.

He said economic growth must translate into better living conditions, affordable food and transportation, productive employment and greater opportunities for businesses.

Tinubu acknowledged that the reforms had placed pressure on many households but said the government was committed to addressing the effects of the adjustment.

He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and support efforts to build a stronger economy.

The President said his administration’s objective was to create an economy capable of lifting more Nigerians out of poverty and delivering broader prosperity.
