President Bola Tinubu has directed the rapid deployment of 100,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion kits across the country within the next three weeks as part of efforts to expand the use of alternative fuel and reduce transportation costs.

The directive was issued during a briefing on the Federal Government’s ongoing energy transition initiatives aimed at promoting cleaner and more affordable energy sources for Nigerians.

Tinubu stressed that the accelerated rollout of the CNG kits is crucial to easing the financial burden on citizens, particularly in the transportation sector, following the removal of fuel subsidies.

He noted that expanding the adoption of CNG-powered vehicles would help lower fuel expenses, improve energy security, and reduce environmental pollution.

The President also instructed relevant agencies and stakeholders to ensure that the kits are distributed efficiently and installed across various states to encourage widespread use of CNG technology.

Officials involved in the initiative explained that the programme forms part of the government’s broader strategy to promote alternative energy, support local industries involved in gas conversion technology, and create new job opportunities within the sector.

The Federal Government has continued to encourage vehicle owners, transport operators, and businesses to embrace CNG as a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to petrol and diesel.
