President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered security agencies to launch an urgent rescue mission for the 25 female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in the Danko-Wasagu area of Kebbi State.

The attack happened in the early hours of Monday when armed gunmen stormed the school premises. The assailants killed the Vice Principal, Hassan Makuku, and left a security guard, Ali Shehu, with gunshot injuries to his right hand.

Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson, Nafi’u Kotarkoshi, confirmed the incident and revealed that a manhunt for the attackers is already in progress.

In an official statement, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Tinubu “strongly condemns” the attack and remains fully committed to the safety of all Nigerians—especially schoolchildren.

According to the minister:

“Protecting every Nigerian, especially schoolchildren, remains a solemn responsibility of the State. The government condemns the reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were carrying out their noble duty.”

Idris added that the President has issued clear and firm directives to security and intelligence agencies to locate the abducted students and ensure their safe return. He also stressed that those behind the attack will be tracked down and brought to justice.

Nigeria, he noted, is intensifying security collaboration with ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to enhance border protection and dismantle terrorist networks operating across the region.

The minister urged citizens to stay calm and remain confident in the ongoing rescue efforts, assuring that security forces are working round the clock to resolve the situation.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
