TINUBU, NGE MOURN EAGLE ONLINE PUBLISHER OLADIPO

President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Guild of Editors and the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers have mourned the death of veteran journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo.

Oladipo, a former Politics Editor of The PUNCH, died on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56. He was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Premium Eagle Media Limited, the parent company of The Eagle Online.

President Tinubu described Oladipo’s death as a painful loss to Nigeria’s media industry and the nation, noting his contributions to political journalism, digital media and the promotion of credible information.

The President said Oladipo’s career reflected the important role of journalists in strengthening democracy by informing citizens, holding public officials accountable and providing platforms for public discourse.

Tinubu also commended his contribution to the development of digital journalism through The Eagle Online, which he founded after his career in traditional media.

The Nigerian Guild of Editors described Oladipo as a professional, courageous and intellectually strong journalist who remained committed to journalism and nation-building.

In a statement signed by its President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, the guild said Oladipo’s contributions had left an enduring mark on Nigeria’s media landscape.

The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers also described his death as a major loss, recalling his role as its president from 2017 to 2021 and his contribution to the growth of online publishing in Nigeria.

GOCOP President Danlami Nmodu said Oladipo played an important role in establishing online publishers as a significant part of Nigeria’s media industry.

Before moving into digital publishing, Oladipo worked with several Nigerian newspapers, including The PUNCH, Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun.

His death has prompted tributes from colleagues, professional bodies and public figures, with many describing him as a journalist who combined professional experience with a strong commitment to the development of Nigeria’s media industry.

The various groups extended their condolences to his family, colleagues and friends while praying for strength for those affected by his death.
