President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continued his series of consultations with key religious and traditional leaders on Friday as he met with the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Sultan Muhammad Sa’adu Abubakar, at the State House in Abuja.

The meeting, confirmed by the President’s Special Assistant on New Media, Dada Olusegun, was part of Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to engage diverse voices in fostering unity and national harmony.

Olusegun shared the update on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, posting a short video clip from the meeting with the caption:

“As part of wide consultations with Religious and Traditional leaders, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Sultan Muhammad Sa’adu Abubakar, at the State House today, just a few days after meeting Bishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama, the Archbishop of Abuja.”

The meeting with the Sultan comes shortly after Tinubu’s recent engagement with Bishop Kaigama, signaling a deliberate move by the President to bridge religious and cultural divides across the country.

Though details of their discussion were not disclosed, observers say these consultations reflect Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance and dialogue at a time when national unity remains a top priority.

The Sultan of Sokoto, who is regarded as a leading voice in the Muslim community, has often championed peace, tolerance, and understanding among Nigeria’s diverse religious groups.

As the nation continues to navigate various social and economic challenges, such meetings between government and religious leaders are seen as vital steps toward building trust and promoting collective progress.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
