President Bola Tinubu has declared that reducing the cost of living is now the top priority of his administration as the government begins a new phase of its economic programme.

Tinubu made the declaration in his Independence Day address on Thursday, saying the government would focus on lowering the cost of producing and transporting goods across Nigeria.

The President said the strategy was intended to make food and other essential goods more affordable while supporting businesses and increasing production.

He said the government would also work to create productive jobs and expand opportunities for young Nigerians as part of efforts to improve household incomes.

Tinubu noted that Nigeria had gone through a difficult period of economic adjustment following reforms introduced by his administration.

He said the government’s focus had now shifted from emergency economic measures to policies aimed at delivering broader prosperity.

The President also highlighted plans to improve access to credit, strengthen infrastructure and support industries capable of creating jobs.

He acknowledged the hardship experienced by many Nigerians during the reform period and said the government understood the pressure facing households.

Tinubu said his administration would continue implementing measures designed to ensure that economic growth benefits more Nigerians.

He urged citizens to remain hopeful as the government begins what he described as the next phase of its economic programme.
