TINUBU LEAVES NIGERIA FOR THREE-WEEK EUROPEAN VACATION

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Nigeria for Europe on a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave.

The President left Abuja on Sunday, August 30, 2026, according to a statement from the Presidency. He is expected to spend the period away from the country as he takes his annual break.

Tinubu's departure comes as his administration continues to implement its economic and governance programmes, with several major issues, including rising living costs, petrol prices, security and preparations for the 2027 elections, dominating national discussions.

The Presidency did not disclose all the details of the President's itinerary or the specific European destinations he will visit during the holiday.

The three-week leave is expected to provide the President with an opportunity to take a break from his official responsibilities after months of government activities and engagements.

While Tinubu is away, the Federal Government is expected to continue its regular operations, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and other senior government officials handling matters requiring presidential attention in accordance with constitutional provisions.

The President's trip also comes shortly after several diplomatic and regional engagements, including Nigeria's participation in discussions at the African Union level on security and other continental challenges.

Tinubu has recently called for stronger African action against xenophobic attacks targeting Africans in South Africa and urged the African Union to intensify efforts towards conflict prevention and improved continental security.

The President's annual vacation is expected to last approximately three weeks, after which he will return to Nigeria and resume his official duties.

The development is likely to attract attention as the country continues to grapple with economic pressures and political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
