7.5MVA injection substation and distribution grid intervention in Rigasa to restore reliable power supply for residents and local businesses

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC), in collaboration with the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG), has officially broken ground on a major electricity infrastructure project to resolve a 15-year blackout in the Rigasa community of Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The power intervention comprises the installation of a 7.5MVA, 33/11kV injection substation, accompanied by a 1.5-kilometre 33kV line and a 2-kilometre 11kV distribution network. Performing the groundbreaking ceremony on behalf of Governor Uba Sani, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, commended the NDPHC and BAT-IG for delivering a targeted solution to the longstanding infrastructure deficit that has crippled economic activities in the area for over a decade and a half.

Speaking at the event, NDPHC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, represented by Executive Director, Networks, Engr. Babayo Bello, reaffirmed the agency's commitment to supporting federal initiatives aimed at expanding electricity distribution capabilities. She noted that although the company's core mandate focuses on power generation, strategic interventions in transmission and distribution infrastructure remain crucial to ensuring generated power reaches unserved and underserved communities.

Representatives of BAT-IG emphasized that the project forms part of broader grassroots initiatives aligned with the administration's infrastructure development agenda, noting that direct collaboration between political support groups and federal executive agencies accelerates project delivery for high-density residential hubs. The District Head of Rigasa, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, alongside community leaders, expressed gratitude to the government and technical partners, anticipating that the energized grid will rejuvenate small enterprises and public security across the community.
