President Bola Tinubu on Monday received the Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, alongside other prominent traditional and religious leaders at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The gathering was held as an interfaith breaking of fast (iftar) organised for traditional and religious leaders across the country.

During the meeting, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s economy and building a more prosperous nation for future generations.

Addressing the leaders, the president said his government had taken decisive steps to stabilise the nation’s finances, noting that Nigeria had been rescued from the brink of bankruptcy.

He explained that with the economy now stabilising despite the initial hardships caused by his reforms, the administration is shifting its attention to development in key sectors, including agriculture, education, and healthcare.

“At least, this government has saved Nigeria from going bankrupt. We are now shifting our focus to health, agriculture and education,” Tinubu said.

Speaking on behalf of the Sultan of Sokoto, the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahya Abubakar, highlighted the significance of Muslims and Christians observing fasting during the same period, describing it as a reminder of the need for unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

He expressed confidence that the Tinubu administration would address the country’s security challenges and reaffirmed the support and loyalty of traditional institutions to the president.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
