TINUBU CALLS FOR POLICE–CITIZEN COOPERATION ON NATIONAL SECURITY
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for stronger cooperation between citizens and the police as part of efforts to improve national security across the country.
Speaking during a recent address on national safety, the president emphasized that security is a shared responsibility that cannot be handled by law enforcement agencies alone. He noted that the police require timely information and active support from the public to effectively prevent and respond to crimes.
Tinubu said that when citizens work closely with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and providing useful information, it becomes easier for authorities to maintain peace and order in communities.
According to him, building trust between the police and the public is essential to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture. He urged communities to see law enforcement officers as partners in protecting lives and property rather than as distant authorities.
The president also reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the capacity of security agencies through better equipment, training, and welfare. He added that reforms aimed at enhancing professionalism and accountability within the police force would continue.
Security analysts have often stressed that effective policing depends heavily on intelligence gathered from local communities. Experts say stronger collaboration between citizens and the police can help reduce crime, address insecurity, and improve response time to emergencies.
Tinubu therefore encouraged Nigerians to remain vigilant and proactive in supporting security efforts, stating that sustained cooperation between citizens and security agencies is key to ensuring a safer nation.
