TINUBU ASKS NIGERIANS FOR MORE TIME TO COMPLETE REFORMS

President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerians to give his administration more time to complete the reforms and programmes it has introduced since taking office.

Tinubu made the appeal on Friday during a special Juma’at prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. He was represented at the event by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Abbas conveyed the President’s message, saying the administration was working to address challenges inherited from previous governments while pursuing economic recovery and national development.

Tinubu urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country, saying peace and development would return as the government continued implementing its reforms.

The appeal comes as the Federal Government continues to defend its economic policies and says the next phase of its reform programme is focused on translating economic gains into improved opportunities and living conditions.

At an Independence anniversary briefing earlier in the week, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume said the government was moving from reform and stabilisation towards growth, production and shared prosperity.

Tinubu has previously acknowledged that the reforms have not resolved all of Nigeria’s economic challenges, saying the administration’s task is to ensure that their benefits are felt more directly by citizens.

The President’s latest appeal comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, when Nigerians will again vote for political office holders.
