TIKTOKERS REMANDED IN PRISON FOR ACCUSING MOHBAD’S WIDOW OF MURDER

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered two TikTok users, Saheed Jamiu (aka Osama) and Uyime Godwin Udoekwere, to be remanded in prison after they publicly accused Omowunmi Aloba, the widow of late singer Mohbad, of being responsible for his death.

The duo was arraigned on Monday, July 29, 2025, before Justice Ibrahim Kala, on charges of conspiracy, cyberstalking, and defamation. The prosecution stated that earlier in July 2025, the men carried out the act by displaying a placard in Ikeja, Lagos, with bold claims that Wunmi was behind Mohbad’s death. They also shared the same accusations on their social media platforms, where the content quickly gained traction.

According to the police, their actions violated sections of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015. Both defendants pleaded not guilty in court.

Their lawyer requested bail, assuring the court they would not interfere with the case. However, Justice Kala denied the oral application, instructing that a formal bail request be filed. Until then, the accused are to remain at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

The court has adjourned the case until September 25, 2025, when the trial is expected to begin.

The case adds another chapter to the ongoing controversy surrounding Mohbad’s sudden death in September 2023, which shocked fans across Nigeria. Since his passing, his wife Wunmi has faced a barrage of online accusations and harassment, with some claiming she played a role in the singer’s demise.

In an interview last October, Wunmi firmly denied the allegations, saying that Mohbad was under immense pressure and threats before his death.

This recent court action highlights the growing concern over online defamation and misinformation, especially when tied to ongoing investigations and high-profile public figures.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
