Tragedy struck in Atan-Ota, Ogun State, on Monday night as a cult-related clash reportedly left at least three people dead.

According to a security source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the violent incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. in the Kajola area of the community. The confrontation involved suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities.

The attack, allegedly carried out by members of the Aiye cult, was said to be a reprisal following the earlier killing of one of their members by the rival Eiye group.

“The Aiye members stormed the area, shot sporadically to create panic, and killed three suspected members of the Eiye cult,” the source revealed. “It was a fallout of an earlier attack on one of their men about two weeks ago.”

Residents were thrown into panic as gunshots echoed through the area, forcing many to flee for safety.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful as she had not responded to inquiries at the time of filing this report.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the rising cases of cult-related violence in parts of Ogun State, with residents calling for urgent intervention from security agencies to prevent further bloodshed.
