THOUSANDS PROTEST IN MINNEAPOLIS AFTER ICE AGENT SHOOTS WOMAN

Tensions erupted in Minneapolis after a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot dead a 37-year-old woman, Renee Nicole Good, in an incident that has drawn widespread condemnation and protests.

According to local media and eyewitnesses, Good was shot at point-blank range while reportedly trying to drive away from federal agents crowding around her vehicle, a Honda SUV. Footage shows one masked ICE officer attempting to open the car door, while another fires three times into the vehicle, causing it to crash into parked cars. Good’s body was later seen slumped in the wreckage, while a passenger reportedly emerged covered in blood.

The Trump administration quickly labelled the incident as an act of “domestic terrorism,” claiming that Good had been attempting to kill ICE agents. However, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rejected the characterization, calling it “bullshit” and demanding ICE leave the city. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the federal response as “propaganda” and promised a full, fair, and expeditious investigation.

Protests erupted immediately following the shooting, with thousands taking to the streets in freezing conditions, carrying signs reading “ICE out of MPLS.” Further demonstrations were planned in front of federal buildings across Minneapolis.

ICE, under the Department of Homeland Security, has faced criticism for its aggressive immigration enforcement, particularly following last summer’s push to recruit 10,000 additional agents. DHS chief Kristi Noem defended the shooting, calling it a defensive response and asserting that Good had “weaponised her vehicle.”

The incident has intensified ongoing debates over immigration enforcement in U.S. cities and the use of lethal force by federal officers in domestic operations. Investigations are ongoing, and officials have urged the public to allow the process to unfold before drawing conclusions.
