“THOSE CHILDREN ARE SUFFERING” — FALANA DEMANDS URGENT RESCUE OF ABDUCTED OYO PUPILS, TEACHERS
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has called for the urgent rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo State, expressing deep concern over their prolonged captivity.
Falana described the situation as distressing, warning that the victims are likely enduring severe hardship and psychological trauma while in the hands of their abductors.
He urged both the federal and state governments to intensify efforts to secure the immediate release of the victims, stressing that their safety should be treated as a national emergency.
According to him, delays in rescue operations only increase the suffering of the abducted children and their teachers, as well as heighten anxiety among their families and communities.
Falana also emphasised the need for improved security strategies to prevent future school abductions, particularly in vulnerable rural areas where students and staff are often exposed to attacks.
The human rights advocate has consistently spoken against rising insecurity in parts of the country, calling for stronger protection of educational institutions and stricter measures against perpetrators of abductions.
Community members and stakeholders have also continued to demand swift action, with protests and public appeals mounting over the safety of the victims.
Security agencies have reportedly intensified efforts to locate and rescue the abducted individuals, though no official timeline has been given for their release.
The incident has once again renewed national debate on school security and the broader challenge of protecting civilians in high-risk regions.
