A man who broke into a car and stole hard drives containing unreleased Beyoncé music has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Kelvin Evans, 41, pleaded guilty to charges including entering an automobile with intent to commit theft and criminal trespass. A judge sentenced him to five years overall two years behind bars and three years on probation.

The theft happened on July 8, 2025, in an Atlanta parking garage during Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour. Evans broke into a rented Jeep Wagoneer belonging to members of the singer’s team choreographer Christopher Grant and dancer Diandre Blue.

He took suitcases containing hard drives with watermarked unreleased tracks, tour set lists, show plans, laptops, AirPods, and other personal items.

Police later tracked Evans using security footage and arrested him in September 2025. Thankfully, none of the unreleased songs were leaked to the public.

The case drew attention because of Beyoncé’s global stardom and the value of her unreleased work. However, reports suggest the break-in was random and not a targeted attack on the superstar.

Evans had a previous criminal record, and he was already on parole at the time of the theft. During the hearing on May 12, 2026, he accepted the plea deal just before his trial was set to begin.

For many fans across Africa and the world who admire Beyoncé, the case highlights how much effort goes into protecting an artist’s creative work. While the music itself was not released illegally, the incident caused stress for the team during a busy tour period.

The judge also ordered Evans to stay away from the victims and the location of the theft. The stolen items were reportedly recovered, though some personal belongings may have been affected.

This outcome brings some closure to the case. It serves as a reminder that stealing creative work, even by chance, carries serious consequences. Beyoncé’s team has not publicly commented on the sentencing.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
