“THERE’S ROOM FOR EVERYONE” — OLAMIDE ADDRESSES BACKLASH OVER AFROBEATS RANKING

Nigerian rap icon Olamide has responded to the heated debate triggered by his recent comment ranking Wizkid as the top Afrobeats artist after the legendary Fela Kuti.

The conversation erupted after Olamide made the statement during a press briefing in Toronto, Canada. His remark didn’t sit well with many fans of Burna Boy and Davido, who took to social media to insist that their favourites also deserved the number-one spot.

Addressing the controversy on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Olamide made it clear that music is subjective and people are entitled to their personal opinions—without tearing others down.

He emphasized that the music industry is vast enough for every artist to shine in their own lane, adding that supporters should feel free to love whoever they want without comparing or diminishing the achievements of others.

“Honestly, this whole lengthy 3-way conversation is pretty much whatever,” he wrote. “You can’t diminish anyone’s greatness, whether they’re A-list, B-list, or anything else. Feel free to believe what you want or support whoever you choose—there’s plenty of room in the sky for everyone.”

Olamide also noted that Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy are far beyond getting offended by rankings or social media debates. According to him, their massive achievements are built on years of hard work, focus, and growth—not online arguments.

“Burna, David, and Wiz aren’t narrow-minded enough to get offended by someone else’s opinion,” he added. “That’s part of why they’ve reached where they are today.”

As fans continue to debate who the “best” Afrobeats artist is, Olamide’s message serves as a reminder that the genre is big enough for every star to shine.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
