Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist, Eucharia Anunobi, has shared the emotional story of losing her son after years of battling sickle cell disease.

Speaking during an appearance on the Honest Brunch Podcast, the actress reflected on her journey as a mother raising a child with the SS genotype.

Anunobi revealed that the struggle began shortly before her son turned one. After he fell seriously ill, she took him to the hospital where medical tests confirmed that he had sickle cell disease.

Recalling the moment, she said the diagnosis marked the beginning of a long and difficult chapter in her life.

“Just before my son turned one, he became ill and I rushed him to the hospital. After testing his genotype, the doctors confirmed he was SS, and that was when the battle of my life began,” she said.

Determined to care for him as best as she could, Anunobi said she immediately began searching for ways to manage the condition. She spent time researching treatment options, reading about herbs, and studying everything she could about caring for a child living with sickle cell disorder.

“I started going everywhere in search of solutions. I looked for medications, read about herbs, and tried to learn everything about what it takes to care for an SS child,” she explained.

The actress added that she had to adopt strict lifestyle measures to protect her son’s health, noting that certain environmental conditions could trigger health complications.

“I learnt that he couldn’t stay in dusty places or environments with excessive heat. My son never drank sachet water,” she said.

Despite the challenges that came with raising a child with the condition, Anunobi described the years she spent caring for him as deeply meaningful and rewarding.

She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to experience motherhood and the joy of nurturing her son for more than 16 years.

“I’m grateful that God gave me the privilege of being a mother. The joy of nurturing a child for 16 years, six months, and 22 days remains one of the most glorious seasons of my life,” she said.

According to the actress, the experience not only shaped her life but also strengthened her spiritual journey and deepened her faith.

“I’m thankful to God for making me a mother. Through the process of caring for him, I learnt so much, and it brought me closer to God,” she added.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
