Omawumi Breaks Silence, Dismisses Timaya’s Claim About Burna Boy Studio Drama

Nigerian singer Omawumi has firmly denied a story shared by fellow artist Timaya, claiming it never happened.

In December 2023, Timaya had said in an interview that a younger Burna Boy once ordered Omawumi and Waje out of the studio for doubting his dream of flying on a private jet. The claim went viral at the time, with fans divided over whether it was true or exaggerated.

However, Omawumi, in a new interview with Naija FM Lagos, dismissed the entire account as false and called out Timaya for involving her in what she described as a “condescending” narrative.

“That thing no happen,” she said plainly. “What hurt me the most was that Timaya brought my name into a situation that never occurred. He was trying to praise Burna Boy but dragged me down in the process.”

Omawumi expressed disappointment, especially considering her long-standing friendship with Timaya. She emphasized that she has always respected her colleagues and built her brand on mutual respect in the music industry.

“Even Burna Boy has never said anything like that. Anytime we meet, he greets me with respect,” she added.

To set the record straight, Omawumi explained that the only time she remembers being in the same studio space with Burna Boy, Waje, and Timaya was back in 2010 when Waje was recording a song and hosted them.

“I left early because it was getting late. That’s it. So, I don’t know where Timaya got that story from.”

She concluded by warning against using fake or exaggerated stories just to gain attention, especially at the expense of someone’s image.

Bottom Line: Omawumi says there was no studio drama — and she’s calling for respect, not clout chasing.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
