TEXAS BOY, 11, SHOT DEAD WHILE PLAYING ‘DING DONG DITCH’ PRANK
An innocent childhood prank turned tragic in Houston, Texas, after an 11-year-old boy lost his life while playing the popular game known as “ding dong ditch.”
According to the Houston Police Department, the incident happened late Saturday night, August 30, on Racine Street. The young boy, whose name has not been released, was with friends around 11 p.m. when they rang a doorbell and ran off as part of the prank. Moments later, gunshots rang out.
Police say the boy was struck multiple times. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but sadly passed away on Sunday, August 31.
A homeowner was taken into custody for questioning but has since been released. Investigators are currently executing a search warrant as they continue to piece together what happened.
Ding dong ditch—a game where kids ring a doorbell and flee—has gained popularity on TikTok but has also led to dangerous encounters across the U.S. In May, a Virginia homeowner shot and killed a high school athlete under similar circumstances.
The heartbreaking case in Houston is the latest reminder of how a seemingly harmless prank can quickly spiral into tragedy. Police say investigations are ongoing and urged the public to remain patient as they work to bring clarity and justice to the situation.
