The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has been described as a critical institution for sustaining and improving Nigeria’s higher education system.

The Centre for Public Accountability (CPA) said the intervention fund has played a major role in addressing infrastructure gaps, research funding shortages, and capacity development challenges in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

According to the group, TETFund’s support has helped universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education improve learning environments through construction projects, equipment provision, and academic staff training.

The CPA noted that without such interventions, many institutions would struggle to meet basic academic and operational standards due to chronic underfunding.

It also called for improved transparency and efficient use of TETFund resources to ensure maximum impact on students and institutions.

Education stakeholders say sustained funding and proper management of intervention agencies remain essential to reversing challenges in Nigeria’s higher education sector.

The group urged policymakers to strengthen education financing frameworks as part of broader efforts to improve human capital development in the country.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
