TETFUND BLOCKS INSTITUTIONS WITH ABANDONED PROJECTS FROM NEW FUNDING

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has announced that tertiary institutions with abandoned projects will not qualify for new intervention funds until they address existing unfinished projects.

TETFund said the decision is part of efforts to promote accountability, ensure efficient use of resources, and prevent the continuous accumulation of incomplete projects across Nigerian higher institutions.

The agency explained that institutions benefiting from its interventions are expected to complete ongoing projects before seeking approval for additional funding support.

Education stakeholders welcomed the move, saying stronger monitoring and accountability measures are necessary to ensure that funds allocated for infrastructure development deliver meaningful benefits to students and staff.

They noted that abandoned projects have affected the growth of many institutions by leaving critical facilities incomplete despite significant investments.

TETFund reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector while ensuring that intervention funds are properly managed and used for projects that improve learning environments and academic outcomes.
