The Tertiary Education Trust Fund has approved N6 billion for the establishment of digital centres across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones as part of efforts to improve digital learning and strengthen technology-driven education in tertiary institutions.

The initiative is expected to provide students and academic staff with better access to digital resources, modern learning facilities and technology-based educational tools. The centres are also expected to support research, innovation and other academic activities that increasingly depend on reliable digital infrastructure.

The funding comes as Nigerian tertiary institutions continue to face challenges relating to inadequate digital facilities and limited access to modern learning technologies. By establishing dedicated digital centres across the geopolitical zones, TETFund aims to expand opportunities for students and researchers while helping institutions adapt to the changing demands of higher education.

The project is also expected to contribute to the development of digital skills among young Nigerians. Access to appropriate facilities and technology can support online learning, digital research, innovation and collaboration, while giving students opportunities to develop skills that are increasingly required in the labour market.

TETFund’s approval of the N6 billion allocation therefore represents another investment in strengthening Nigeria’s tertiary education infrastructure. The establishment of the centres across the six geopolitical zones is expected to improve access to digital education and support the government’s broader efforts to promote technology and innovation within the country’s education system.
