TERRORISTS KILL IMMIGRATION OFFICER, BURN HIS BODY IN NIGER STATE ATTACK
Tragedy struck in Niger State over the weekend as suspected ISWAP terrorists launched a deadly attack on a Nigeria Immigration Service outpost in the Lumma Sanke area of Borgu Local Government Area.
The attackers, who stormed the area on Saturday evening in large numbers, killed a senior Immigration officer identified as Superintendent Suleiman. According to sources, his body was set ablaze after he was murdered. The attackers also destroyed patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and personal belongings belonging to security personnel.
The incident occurred at the Luma Immigration Service Patrol Outpost located along the Babanna-Wawa road. Another officer, identified as Ahmed, is currently missing and his whereabouts remain unknown.
In a related incident, a nearby mobile police (Mopol) checkpoint at Luma Ba’are was also attacked almost at the same time. However, it is unclear if there were casualties at that location.
Residents and security sources believe the two attacks were coordinated and carried out within minutes of each other.
“This is becoming unbearable. Terrorists are having a field day in the area,” one source lamented.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over growing insecurity in border communities and the increasing boldness of terrorist groups in the region.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, and efforts to rescue missing personnel and restore order are ongoing.
