Panic erupted at the Okeyimi Health Centre in Ado Ekiti on Monday following the shocking disappearance of a day-old newborn from the hospital.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of August 4, threw the facility into turmoil after medical personnel discovered that the baby girl was missing during routine care. The sudden disappearance has left the infant’s mother, family members, patients, and staff devastated and in confusion.

Sources within the hospital confirmed that the newborn’s mother, some staff members, and a security officer were detained for initial questioning as authorities began investigations.

Attempts to reach the hospital management for an official response proved unsuccessful as of press time.

Confirming the case, the spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, SP Sunday Abutu, said four individuals had been apprehended in connection with the matter.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough probe to locate the missing infant,” Abutu stated. “Currently, four suspects are in custody and are providing useful information to aid the investigation.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
