TEMS MAKES HISTORY AS BESTSELLING FEMALE AFRICAN ARTIST IN THE US
Nigerian singer and songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the bestselling female African artist in the United States.
According to music chart monitoring platform Chart Data, her collaborative hit with Future and Drake, “Wait For U”, recently crossed the 10 million unit sales mark in the US. The achievement makes the track eligible for the coveted RIAA Diamond certification.
Tems is now the first female African artist to record more than 10 million single sales in the US, and only the second African overall, following Wizkid’s success with “One Dance” alongside Drake.
The Grammy-winning artist, whose career has soared globally, continues to dominate charts with other hit singles such as “Essence”, “Free Mind”, “Higher”, “Me & U”, and “Found”, many of which have earned multi-Platinum, Platinum, and Gold certifications in the US.
Tems’ latest milestone further cements her status as one of Africa’s most influential music exports and a trailblazer for female artists on the global stage.
