TELCOS OWE 25-YEAR GROWTH TO WORKERS’ SACRIFICE – ATCON

The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria has credited the growth of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry over the past 25 years to the dedication and sacrifices of workers in the sector.

ATCON said employees across the industry had played a major role in building and maintaining the infrastructure that has transformed telecommunications services and expanded digital connectivity across the country.

The association noted that Nigeria’s telecoms industry has evolved significantly since the liberalisation of the sector, with mobile services becoming an important part of everyday life and economic activity.

It said the progress recorded would not have been possible without the commitment of engineers, technicians, customer service personnel, managers, and other professionals working across the industry.

Industry stakeholders said telecom workers have also had to operate under challenging conditions, including infrastructure limitations, security concerns, rising operating costs, and demanding service expectations.

ATCON called for greater investment in workforce development, skills training, and employee welfare to ensure that workers remain equipped to support the sector’s continued growth.

The association also urged telecom operators and other stakeholders to recognise the contribution of employees as the industry enters its next phase of development.

Experts said continued investment in digital infrastructure and human capital would be essential to expanding broadband access and supporting Nigeria’s growing digital economy.

ATCON reaffirmed its commitment to working with industry stakeholders to strengthen the telecommunications sector and support sustainable growth.

The association said the achievements of the past 25 years provide a foundation for further innovation and expansion as Nigeria continues its digital transformation.
