TCN SCHEDULES NINE-HOUR POWER OUTAGE IN PARTS OF ABUJA FOR URGENT REPAIRS

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a nine-hour electricity interruption in parts of Abuja as it carries out urgent maintenance at the Katampe 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation. The exercise is scheduled for Saturday, September 5, 2026, and will run from 10am to 7pm. According to TCN, the maintenance is necessary to enable its engineers to repair an oil leakage discovered on one of the transformers at the substation.

TCN explained that the maintenance work would affect some electricity circuits connected to the affected transformer during the period. As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to take power from some of the feeders supplying electricity to customers in areas connected to the transformer. The company said the temporary interruption was necessary to allow its maintenance crew to safely seal the leakage and prevent the fault from developing into a more serious problem.

The transmission company said its technical team would work throughout the scheduled period to complete the repairs. The affected transformer forms part of the infrastructure responsible for transmitting electricity to distribution feeders serving consumers in parts of Abuja. TCN therefore urged affected electricity users to make appropriate arrangements for the temporary loss of supply while the maintenance operation is ongoing.

The company apologised to electricity consumers who may experience inconvenience as a result of the planned outage. It stressed that the intervention was aimed at addressing the transformer fault and improving the reliability of the transmission infrastructure. TCN also assured consumers that electricity supply would be restored to the affected feeders after the maintenance work is completed and the system is safely returned to normal operation.

The latest announcement is part of ongoing maintenance activities by TCN to address faults and keep critical transmission equipment in good working condition. While the nine-hour interruption is expected to affect some consumers in the Abuja area, the company said the exercise is required to prevent the oil leakage from worsening and potentially causing a longer or more disruptive outage. Consumers in the affected areas are therefore expected to experience temporary power cuts between 10am and 7pm on Saturday.
