TCN ANNOUNCES SIX-HOUR POWER OUTAGE IN OGUN COMMUNITIES FOR MAINTENANCE WORK
The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a planned six-hour electricity outage that will affect several communities in Ogun State on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
According to the company, residents and businesses in the McPherson, University, and Ogunmakin areas will experience temporary power interruption between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. due to scheduled maintenance activities.
In a statement shared on its official 𝕏 account, TCN explained that the outage became necessary to allow engineers carry out preventive maintenance on the 40MVA 132/33KV transformer located at the McPherson Transmission Substation.
The company’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the exercise is aimed at ensuring the long-term efficiency, reliability, and stable operation of the transformer.
She explained that technical teams would use the maintenance period to conduct routine checks designed to reduce the risk of unexpected faults and improve overall service delivery within the transmission network.
“The maintenance exercise is to enable TCN crew to undertake preventive routine checks on the transformer to ensure continued optimal performance,” Mbah stated.
As a result of the maintenance operation, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company will temporarily suspend electricity supply to customers within the affected communities during the exercise.
TCN noted that the temporary disruption forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the national power infrastructure and minimise future technical failures that could lead to unplanned blackouts.
The company also appealed to residents and electricity consumers in the affected areas to remain patient throughout the exercise, assuring them that power supply would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.
The announcement comes amid ongoing concerns by Nigerians over power supply challenges and frequent electricity interruptions across different parts of the country.
