The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that parts of Abuja will experience a planned power outage lasting over two weeks, beginning Tuesday, October 28, through Sunday, November 16, 2025.

In a statement issued on Monday, TCN’s spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explained that the blackout is necessitated by road construction activities being carried out by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) along the Kuje axis of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to the company, the ongoing construction will affect the 132-kilovolt Gwagwalada–Kukwaba–Apo double-circuit transmission line, disrupting bulk electricity supply to several areas including Apo, Lokogoma, Guzape, Asokoro, Wuye, Utako, Jabi, and Idu Industrial Layout.

“The planned outage will be executed in three phases to ensure smooth coordination with the construction schedule,” the statement read.

Phase One: October 28 – November 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily

Phase Two: November 6 – November 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily

Phase Three: November 12 – November 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily

TCN emphasized that the temporary power interruptions are necessary to guarantee public and operational safety during the road works.

However, the company assured residents that normal power supply will be restored daily after each day’s work and fully reinstated once construction is completed.

The announcement has sparked concern among Abuja residents and businesses, who fear the extended outages could disrupt operations and daily activities across affected areas.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
