TAX OMBUD TO UNVEIL TAXPAYERS’ RIGHTS CHARTER
The Tax Ombud is set to launch a Taxpayers’ Rights Charter aimed at safeguarding the rights of individuals and corporate bodies in their interactions with tax authorities.
The announcement was made on Friday as preparations intensify for the official unveiling scheduled for next week.
Tax Ombud, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, said the charter will clearly define fundamental rights such as fairness, transparency, privacy, timely service, and the right to appeal tax decisions.
“This landmark document will promote accountability, reduce disputes, and build greater confidence in the tax system,” he stated.
The initiative is expected to serve as a guiding framework for tax administrators and a reference tool for taxpayers across the country.
Stakeholders have applauded the move, describing it as a critical step towards more equitable and transparent tax governance in Nigeria.
