TARABA GOVERNOR KEFAS POSTPONES PLANNED APC DEFECTION OVER KEBBI SCHOOLGIRLS’ ABDUCTION
Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has postponed his planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the abduction of schoolgirls from Maga Comprehensive Girls’ Secondary School in Kebbi State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Jalingo, Governor Kefas described the abduction as “deeply saddening,” noting that it would be insensitive to proceed with political celebrations while families and the nation are grieving.
“My decision follows the deeply saddening kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State. The safety and well-being of the children are far more important than any political activity,” he said.
Kefas extended his sympathies to the families of the abducted girls and also conveyed condolences to the Federal Government. He urged security agencies to intensify rescue operations to ensure the safe return of the victims.
The defection rally—initially scheduled for November 19, 2025—has now been suspended pending further consultations and an improvement in the security situation.
Meanwhile, political realignments have already intensified in Taraba State ahead of the governor’s expected move. Over the past 48 hours, all PDP members of the State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, cabinet members, top government officials, and even the Secretary to the State Government have defected to the APC.
Some political stakeholders who spoke to our reporter commended Governor Kefas for prioritising national sensitivity over politics, describing the postponement as a compassionate gesture toward the abducted Kebbi schoolgirls and their families.
