TARABA GOVERNMENT BEGINS EVACUATION OF STUDENTS FROM PLATEAU

The Taraba State Government has begun evacuating its students from Plateau State following growing security concerns in parts of the state capital, Jos.

The evacuation was ordered by Agbu Kefas, Governor of Taraba State, after reports of rising tension and violence in communities around the University of Jos.

According to reports, the state government deployed about 16 Hummer buses accompanied by security escorts to transport students of Taraba origin back to their home state. The exercise is aimed at ensuring the safety of the students amid the deteriorating security situation in Jos and surrounding areas.

The development comes after a series of violent incidents in parts of Jos, including attacks that claimed several lives and heightened fear among residents and students. The situation also forced the management of the University of Jos to order students to vacate hostels as tensions escalated around the campus.

Government officials said the evacuation followed appeals from the leadership of Taraba students studying in Jos, who had earlier called on the state authorities to urgently intervene and secure their safe return home.

Authorities in Taraba assured parents and guardians that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to guarantee the safe transportation of the students during the evacuation process.

The state government also urged calm among citizens while security agencies continue efforts to restore peace and normalcy in Plateau.

The evacuation by Taraba is part of a broader response by several state governments whose students study in Jos, as they move to protect their citizens in the wake of the recent security crisis in the area.
