Veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, fondly known as Ogogo, has opened up about his harrowing seven-year struggle with chronic ulcer — a period he described as the darkest in his life.

In a heartfelt interview, the Nollywood star recounted how the illness struck unexpectedly one day while he was on his way to a movie location. According to him, it all began with a sudden, intense chest pain that shot to his back, leaving him deeply unsettled within minutes.

“I was with a friend in the car, but he couldn’t drive. By the time we reached the location, I wasn’t okay at all. That was where I met Remi Surutu who, seeing how I looked, guessed it might be ulcer,” Ogogo recalled.

The following day, he went to the hospital and received the diagnosis that would change his life: chronic ulcer. What followed was a tough seven-year ordeal marked by severe pain, constant hospital visits, and frightening symptoms.

“For about seven months, I was vomiting blood. I couldn’t eat anything except pap. I prayed sitting down because I was too weak to kneel or stand. It was a terrible period of my life,” he shared.

Ogogo said the illness also affected his career, as he could barely show up on set. Still, he expressed deep gratitude that despite the financial strain of seeking different treatments from place to place, he never had to sell any of his properties to survive.

The actor also took a moment to debunk assumptions about the cause of his condition. “I don’t smoke or take weed,” he emphasized, suggesting that his ulcer was not lifestyle-induced but rather an unfortunate health challenge.

Through it all, Ogogo says he is thankful to God and to everyone who stood by him during those tough years. Today, fans are equally grateful that the beloved actor continues to grace their screens, stronger and still full of life.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
