SUSPENDED FUOYE SUG PRESIDENT REINSTATED — NANS

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced the reinstatement of the suspended Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Comrade Oluwaseun Olamide, following successful interventions and stakeholder engagements.

The development brings to a close weeks of tension on the FUOYE campus after the union leader was suspended by the university management over alleged misconduct and breach of institutional protocols. NANS, through its South West Zone Coordinator, Comrade Afolabi Olawale, confirmed the reinstatement on Friday, describing it as a victory for student democracy and due process.

“After wide consultations and series of meetings with the university authorities, the suspension has been lifted. Comrade Oluwaseun Olamide is hereby reinstated as the substantive SUG President with immediate effect,” Olawale stated. He commended the maturity shown by both the student leadership and the management in resolving the impasse.

The SUG president, who resumed duties immediately, expressed gratitude to NANS, fellow students, and well-wishers for their support during the trying period. “This reinstatement is not just a personal victory but a win for every student of FUOYE. We remain committed to constructive dialogue and advancing the welfare of our members,” Olamide said.

FUOYE management, in a brief statement, noted that the matter has been resolved amicably in the interest of peace and academic stability on campus. The institution urged all students to channel their grievances through appropriate channels and focus on their studies as the second semester progresses.

The episode had sparked protests and online campaigns by students who viewed the suspension as heavy-handed. Education observers see the resolution as a positive signal of improved town-gown relations and respect for student representation in Nigerian universities.

NANS leadership warned that it would continue to monitor developments at FUOYE to ensure the rights of students are protected while maintaining discipline and order. The association called on other institutions to emulate this approach in handling student leadership matters.

The reinstatement is expected to restore normalcy to student union activities and foster a conducive environment for learning at the federal institution.
