SUSPECTED CULT LEADER, 4 OTHERS ARRESTED AT IGBINEDION UNIVERSITY
Edo Police Arrest Suspected Cult Leader, Accomplices at Igbinedion University
Security operatives have arrested a suspected cult leader, Favour Nosaghare, along with four others, at Igbinedion University, Okada, in Edo State, over alleged involvement in cult-related activities.
The arrest, which took place on July 28, followed a tip-off from the university’s security unit. According to reports, Nosaghare—who had earlier been suspended by the school for alleged cultism—was seen back on campus around 3:20 p.m., in the company of other suspected cult members.
Acting swiftly, security personnel apprehended four other students identified as Emmanuel Omogiyo, Osaigie Gerald, Obiorah Chukwudi, and Esther Chukwuma. All five suspects are said to be connected to the Black Axe confraternity, also known as Aye, a group notorious for cult violence in Nigeria.
During the operation, the authorities recovered several illegal items, including wraps of Indian hemp, Rizla rolling papers, and a metal grinder—items commonly linked to drug use.
Sources revealed that during preliminary questioning, the main suspect, Nosaghare, confessed to his involvement in cult-related activities.
The university and police have not yet released a full statement, but investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the group’s activities and whether more individuals are involved.
This incident comes as part of renewed efforts by both school authorities and law enforcement agencies to curb cultism and drug abuse on campuses, ensuring a safer learning environment for students.
Students and parents are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to the authorities.
