SUSPECTED CULT CLASH LEAVES ONE DEAD IN MEIRAN, LAGOS
Cult Violence Sparks Panic in Lagos Community as Young Man is Killed
Tension has taken over the Omi-Ata area of Meiran, Lagos State, after suspected cultists killed a young man identified only as Rahman on Monday night.
According to residents, the attackers, believed to be members of a rival cult group, stormed the neighborhood and chased Rahman to his family home. He tried to escape and hide in a nearby house, but the assailants found him and brutally murdered him.
Witnesses say Rahman was reportedly linked to the Aye confraternity, while the attackers are believed to belong to the Eiye group—two rival cults with a history of deadly clashes.
Sadly, others in the house where Rahman was killed were also injured during the attack. The violent scene caused panic among locals, many of whom fled for safety as chaos erupted.
A resident, speaking anonymously, said the killing might be part of an ongoing reprisal between the cult groups. Advocacy group NaijaConfra also linked Rahman’s death to the earlier murder of his close friend, Chidi, in the same area. Rahman had reportedly gone into hiding after Chidi’s death but recently returned—only to be attacked days later on Oyetoro Street near the Omi-Ata bus stop.
At the time of this report, police were yet to officially respond. Efforts to reach Lagos State Police PRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful.
The incident has once again raised concerns about rising cult-related violence in Lagos communities and the need for stronger security presence and youth engagement to prevent further bloodshed.
