The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended a suspected cattle rustler and recovered two cows along with a Toyota vehicle allegedly used in the crime at Suru Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, said the arrest was based on credible intelligence which led a patrol team to intercept the suspect, identified as Basiru Abdullahi, on August 27, 2025, around 11:00 p.m. in Suru District.

Abdullahi was found with two cows believed to have been stolen. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to collaborating with four others—Garba Chairman Datti, Ja’e Ango, and two still at large—to steal three cows belonging to a local herder, Sarkin Fulani Usman of Suru.

Investigations revealed that the stolen livestock was sold for N500,000 to Safiyanu Aliyu of Jega town, while another buyer, Naziru Danmanu, is currently on the run. Police also recovered a green Toyota vehicle with registration number Naija-Minna 708XB, which was allegedly used during the operation.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation and efforts to apprehend the other suspects.
