SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM GUNMEN STORM BORNO SCHOOL, ABDUCT STUDENTS IN FRESH ATTACK
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly attacked a Primary and Junior Secondary School in Mussa village, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting an unspecified number of students.
The incident, which occurred on Friday morning, has thrown the community into panic amid growing fears over the safety of pupils and residents.
Attackers Storm Community on Motorcycles
According to residents, the armed men arrived the village in large numbers on motorcycles shortly after troops stationed in the area reportedly left following a routine patrol.
A resident who spoke anonymously said several schoolchildren were taken away during the invasion, although the exact number of abducted students remains unclear.
“Yes, the attack happened early hours of today (Friday) and it was discovered that many children were abducted,” the resident was quoted as saying.
Authorities have not yet independently confirmed the number of victims as of the time of filing this report.
Confusion Over Number of Abducted Students
While the attack has been confirmed locally, there is still uncertainty over the scale of abductions, with officials yet to provide verified figures.
The situation has left parents and community members in distress as search efforts and assessments continue.
Lawmaker Confirms Attack, Says Many Pupils Fled
The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Askira, confirmed that the school was attacked but said details remain unclear.
He explained that while there were reports of possible abductions, many students were also believed to have fled into nearby bushes during the chaos.
“Details of the attack are sketchy, but the information at my disposal has it that many of the students fled into the bush, but I don’t have details of those abducted,” he said.
He described the incident as disturbing, noting that the attackers appeared to have monitored troop movements before striking shortly after security forces left the area.
Residents Raise Alarm on Social Media
Following the attack, several residents took to social media to call for prayers and urgent intervention, expressing fear over the missing children.
One resident, identified as Solomon Mussa, appealed for public support and prayers for the affected community, stating that schoolchildren were among those impacted.
Authorities Yet to Issue Official Statement
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force in Borno State had not issued an official confirmation or detailed statement regarding the incident.
The attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of the North-East, where insurgent activities continue to disrupt communities and education.
