A suspected armed robber operating from a refuse dump in the Abule Egba area of Lagos has been shot dead by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.

The suspect, identified only as Blessing, was killed during an early morning raid on Thursday in the Katangua area following intelligence reports of criminal activity at the location.

According to sources within the police, the operation commenced around 1:30 a.m. after receiving credible information about the presence of armed gang members. Upon the arrival of officers at the scene, Blessing allegedly opened fire, leading to a gunfight.

“There was an intense exchange of gunfire. The suspect was hit and later confirmed dead by medical personnel at a nearby hospital,” a police source revealed.

Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating that the raid followed the confession of a 43-year-old suspect, Yakubu Adeyemi, who was previously apprehended.

“Acting on actionable intelligence, officers stormed the Katangua refuse site to apprehend more members of the gang and recover firearms,” Hundeyin said. “The suspect, Blessing, engaged the police in a shootout and was neutralized. He was confirmed dead at Oke Odo General Hospital.”

Recovered from the hideout were an AK-47 rifle loaded with five rounds of ammunition, a locally made single-barrel pistol, and four live cartridges.

Hundeyin added that the deceased’s body has been taken to the Mainland Hospital mortuary for autopsy, while efforts continue to apprehend other fleeing suspects.
