The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will on Monday, September 29, administer the oath of office to 57 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) as part of activities marking the start of the 2025/2026 legal year of the Supreme Court.

The ceremony will take place at the Main Courtroom of the apex court.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the Director of Information and Public Relations of the court, Dr. Festus Akande, confirmed the development.

According to him, “In line with tradition, the Chief Justice of Nigeria will deliver a State-of-the-Judiciary address during the special court session. This will review the performance of the Supreme Court specifically, and the Nigerian Judiciary generally, in the 2024/2025 legal year.

“Other key stakeholders in the justice sector, including the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), will also deliver remarks on the state of the sector.”

The apex court had earlier embarked on its annual vacation on Monday, July 21, 2025, following the conclusion of the 2024/2025 legal year.

All activities lined up for the new legal year will commence at 10 a.m.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
