Nigeria’s Super Falcons will take on Portugal’s senior women’s national team in a friendly match on Monday, as part of their preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) set to hold in Morocco next month.

The nine-time African champions departed Abuja on Sunday morning via a Royal Air Maroc flight, heading to Casablanca before proceeding to Lisbon for the match.

Before their departure, the team visited the Portuguese and Moroccan embassies to complete visa processes. They held training sessions at the MKO Abiola Stadium on Thursday and at Turf Arena on Friday and Saturday.

Key players in training included goalkeepers Chiamaka Nnadozie and Tochukwu Oluehi, defender Osinachi Ohale, midfielder Christy Ucheibe, and forward Francisca Ordega, under the supervision of Head Coach Justine Madugu and his assistants.

Other players expected to join the camp in Lisbon include Michelle Alozie (USA), Ashleigh Plumptre (Saudi Arabia), captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Halimatu Ayinde, Jennifer Echegini, Toni Payne, Esther Okoronkwo, Rinsola Babajide, and Chinwendu Ihezuo.

The match will be played at Estádio José Gomes in Lisbon’s Amadora district and is scheduled to kick off at 7pm local time, which is also 7pm in Nigeria.

After the Portugal clash, the Super Falcons will face Ghana’s Black Queens in another friendly match on Sunday, June 29, in Morocco, just before the WAFCON tournament begins.

In the group stage of the competition, Nigeria will compete in Group B against Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria, with all matches to be played at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
