The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to look out for the new crescent marking the beginning of Zulki’ida 1447AH.

The directive was issued through a statement by Sambo Junaidu on behalf of the Sultanate Council.

According to the statement, Friday, April 17, 2026, which corresponds to the 29th day of Shawwal 1447AH, has been set aside for the moon sighting exercise.

Muslims who sight the new moon are advised to report their observations to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan.

The announcement is part of the traditional process used to determine the commencement of a new Islamic month, with cooperation from the Muslim community encouraged nationwide.
