SUCCOUR AS GROUP EMPOWERS 70 INDIGENT WOMEN, INTERVENES IN WELFARE, RENT OF PROSTHETIC LEG MOTHER

Three years after a prosthetic-leg mother of one was abandoned by her husband, succour has come her way as a non-governmental organisation, Ministry Incorporated and Charities (MMI Charities), intervened on her house rent and support to enable her to live well.

Mrs Stella Okonkwo, whose leg was amputated some years ago and currently leans on a prosthetic for support, was among the 70 women empowered by the organisation.

Another “homeless” Mrs Susan Oke was also offered shelter with a promise for employment for her daughter by the organisation.

While Okonkwo received additional N100,000 for her house rent, and hopes for replacement of her expired prosthetic leg, Susan and her daughter would live in one of the apartments belonging to the Founder of the organisation, Chuka Nwokoro.

The replacement of her expired prosthetic would cost as much as N800,000.

Several food items were distributed to the 70 beneficiaries, as well as monetary transfers into their bank accounts to enable them to start businesses of their choice.

Speaking during the organisation’s three-year anniversary and empowerment programme for indigent women held in partnership with The African Rebirth Vision Foundation (TARVF), in Enugu, Nwokoro stated that the ultimate goal of life is to share love, forgiveness, faith, hope, and reach out to humanity. He maintained that through MMI Charities, many indigent families would be liberated.

The Arochukwu-Abia State-born philanthropist, who pledged to channel 90 percent of his wealth towards charity and the work of God, said the organisation had in the past three years empowered indigent women and children, as well as helped young graduates find their footing through employment and funding for business proposals.

“I have come to share love with you. I admonish you that no matter how little, help those in your locality who do not have. You do not need to have all the money in the world to help those less privileged. Love your neighbour because love is everything, and prepare your lives towards making heaven.

“My plan is to target Africa for God. We must take back Africa. I am here to bring you the truth. No matter the church you belong to, what matters most is who you are and the love you bring to the world. I say it again, 90 percent of my wealth I will give to the poor,” he stated.

Earlier in a homily to mark the three years anniversary held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Enugu, a retired Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. John Amadi, admonished the congregation to imbibe the spirit of helping one another, stating that everyone would be judged by the life they lived and the positive impact made on society.

He commended Nwokoro for living his life for God, describing him as a family friend and spiritual father to the Nwokoro family. He added that Nwokoro had followed in his father’s footsteps and was pursuing an apostolic assignment.

“Despite his status in society, Chuka has remained exceptional, helping the poor and investing in the vineyard of God,” he said.

Also speaking, the Director General of MMI Charities, Mrs. Delphine Chioma, said members of MMI Charities have a passion for God and humanity.

She disclosed that every Sunday at 10 p.m., members gather on a WhatsApp platform to pray for issues that would better society, noting that the country was not moving in the right direction.
