SOWORE’S AAC SEEKS TINUBU’S APPROVAL TO HOLD CAMPAIGN EVENT AT ASO VILLA
The African Action Congress (AAC), the party of 2027 presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, has asked President Bola Tinubu to approve the use of the Presidential Villa in Abuja for the inauguration of its presidential campaign council.
In a letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by its National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, the party proposed November 11 for the event ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The letter, titled Request for Approval to Hold the Inauguration of the AAC Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa and for Logistical Support, also requested food, drinks, and other logistical arrangements for participants.
The AAC said its request was based on multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties. It argued that granting the request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to treating political parties fairly, regardless of their affiliation.
The party also referred to arrangements reportedly extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement, arguing that opposition parties should receive comparable treatment.
The letter stated that the AAC was requesting logistical support “consistent with the arrangements reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement.”
The request comes after Tinubu inaugurated the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on October 14, as the ruling party began preparations for the 2027 election.
The use of the Presidential Villa for party activities has previously drawn criticism from opposition figures, who have questioned whether a state facility should be used for partisan political events.
The AAC had announced the inauguration of its Sowore–Magashi 2027 Presidential Campaign Council on October 9. The council is expected to coordinate campaign activities across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
