SOWORE INSISTS ON JUDGE’S WITHDRAWAL, OPTS TO APPEAR FOR HIMSELF IN CYBERBULLYING TRIAL

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has insisted on the withdrawal of the presiding judge in his ongoing cyberbullying trial, while also indicating that he will personally represent himself in court proceedings.

The case, which is being heard in Nigeria, stems from allegations relating to comments made by the activist on social media, which authorities say contravene cybercrime laws.

During the latest court sitting, Sowore reportedly raised concerns over the impartiality of the trial, prompting renewed legal debate on whether the judge should step aside.

He further informed the court of his decision to proceed without legal counsel, choosing to defend himself as the matter continues.

The prosecution, however, is expected to continue presenting its case while the court considers procedural and legal motions raised by the defence.

The development adds another layer of tension to a case that has already drawn public attention, particularly around issues of free speech, digital expression, and legal accountability in Nigeria.

The court adjourned the matter to a later date for further hearing.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
