Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has announced October 20, 2025, as the date for a protest march demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Sowore announced on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @YeleSowore, on Wednesday, describing the march as a “historic” movement aimed at compelling the federal government to comply with court orders and release Kanu unconditionally.

“We now have a date for the historic #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest march to the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. It is October 20 at 7AM!” he wrote.

The activist, who is known for his role in nationwide protests such as #RevolutionNow and #EndSARS, said the march will begin at 7 a.m. at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Kanu has been held in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021, following his controversial extradition from Kenya. He faces charges of terrorism and treasonable felony, despite multiple court rulings ordering his release.

The planned demonstration comes exactly one year after the #EndSARS memorial, raising expectations among supporters and human rights advocates for a renewed push for justice and government accountability.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
