SOME MINISTERS PAY BILLIONS TO GET APPOINTED — APC CAMPAIGN SPOKESMAN
Alwan Hassan, a spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, has alleged that some ministers spend billions of naira to secure appointments and later seek to recover the money after taking office.
Hassan made the claim during a television interview while discussing government spending and President Bola Tinubu’s approach to managing public funds.
He argued that tighter control over expenditure was necessary to prevent public resources from being misused.
According to him, the alleged practice of paying for appointments can create an incentive for officials to prioritise recovering their expenses once they enter government.
When the interviewer questioned whether his comments implicated ministers serving under the APC administration, Hassan said he was referring to a longstanding problem that predated the party’s time in power.
He also praised what he described as Tinubu’s direct involvement in overseeing government expenditure.
However, Hassan did not name any minister who allegedly paid for an appointment, identify anyone who received such payments or present evidence supporting his claim.
The allegation remains unsubstantiated. His remarks do not establish wrongdoing by any individual minister.
