Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has taken a commanding lead in the ongoing governorship election, winning 19 out of the 21 local government areas so far announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Soludo secured overwhelming margins across all declared results, leaving his opponents far behind in the contest.

The announced local government areas include Dunukofia, Njikoka, Ogbaru, Awka North, Awka South, Orumba North, Orumba South, Aguata, and Ekwusigo. Others are Nnewi North, Nnewi South, Anaocha, Idemili North, Idemili South, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Oyi, Ayamelum, and Anambra East.

Only two local government areas—Anambra West and Ihiala—are yet to be announced, according to INEC. Officials of the electoral body have taken a brief one-hour break and are expected to resume by 6 a.m. to conclude the collation exercise.

If Soludo maintains his lead, he will become the third consecutive governor from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), following in the footsteps of Peter Obi and Willie Obiano, both of whom served two terms each.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
