In a remarkable show of integrity and professionalism, Nigerian soldiers under Operation Safe Haven turned down a ₦13.7 million bribe offered by terrorists during a mission in Plateau State.

According to Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, the incident occurred when troops responded to a distress call along Jos-Sanga Road. During the operation, soldiers intercepted two terrorists in a vehicle riddled with bullet holes. In a desperate attempt to escape justice, the suspects offered ₦13.7 million in cash—but the troops firmly rejected the bribe and arrested them on the spot.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Maj. Gen. Kangye revealed that the suspects were in possession of weapons, ammunition, and illicit drugs, which were all recovered by the military.

The troops also carried out several offensive operations across parts of Plateau, Kaduna, and Nasarawa States, including areas like Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Jos East, South Wase, Kaura, and Sanga LGAs. These operations led to:

12 suspects arrested

3 kidnapped victims rescued

Multiple weapons, vehicles, and motorcycles seized

He noted that seven other suspects were arrested in Barkin Ladi and Jos South, as well as in Wamba (Nasarawa) and Sanga (Kaduna), with further recoveries of arms and drugs.

“The bravery and integrity shown by our troops, especially in rejecting the bribe, is commendable. Their actions show the Nigerian military’s unwavering commitment to the security of our people,” Kangye said.

He urged the public to stay vigilant and continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activity. He also called on the

media to support the military’s efforts by sharing verified information.

“With the support of all Nigerians, we will continue to make progress in restoring peace across the country,” he concluded.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
